As we discussed in the article “What is a wallet and how to keep it safe”, a wallet address is a long string of numbers and letters designed to be read by computers; it is the result of the encryption of the public key, which in turn is encrypted from a private key, which is a 256-bit number.
The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is a naming system based on the Ethereum blockchain that offers users the possibility to substitute their long and unfamiliar addresses with names like ‘alice.eth”, which are easy to remember and share. The ENS can be used also as a browser domain, which can be already read by certain services such as Brave and Opera.
ENS is a system which is well integrated in Eidoo. One can:
- Create their own ENS
To do so, copy this URL: https://app.ens.domains/ and paste it in the browser of Eidoo. Then, connect the Eidoo wallet using the Ethereum blockchain, check the availability of the desired ENS together with its price, choose the renewal time and proceed with the transaction to purchase it.
- Send crypto to an ENS address
To send ERC20 tokens to an ENS address, start by selecting the asset you want to send, then tap on the arrow pointing right and type the ENS in the search bar (for example, vitalik.eth is the ENS owned by Vitalik Buterin, founder of Ethereum) and confirm the transaction.
Please recall that ENS is only supported on the Ethereum blockchain. Sending funds to an ENS from another blockchain will incur a loss of funds.
